Get to Know Your Favorite Strain | Skywalker OG

Discover the aromatic compounds that give Skywalker OG such a forceful aroma and powerful effects.

Much like the beloved sci-fi character it was named after, the force is strong with this cultivar. By that, we mean it has potent effects and a dank aroma that can be heard across the galaxy. Obviously, we’re talking about Skywalker OG.

Also known as Skywalker OG Kush, this cultivar perfectly combines its inherited genetic qualities. On one side, Mazar bestows an earthy, spicy aroma, potent body relaxation, and mind-warping cerebral effects. On the other side, Blueberry OG offers a calming euphoria and a sweet herbaceousness.

In the end, gassy top notes help Skywalker OG maintain the balance between its light floral herbs and dark OG elements. Just be prepared for the effects that will sink you into the couch faster than the Millennium Falcon made the Kessel Run.

All joking aside, this cultivar's aroma and flavor are due to a truly beautiful combination of aromatic compounds. Read on to discover the compounds that create the harmonious aroma and potent effects of the Skywalker OG terpene profile.

Our scientists isolate specific terpenes and aromatic compounds of popular cultivars so both cannabis and non-cannabis consumers can enjoy and benefit from botanically-derived, hemp-derived, and cannabis-derived terpenes.

Skywalker OG Terpene Profile

The Skywalker OG aroma first hits you with gassy top notes and a blend of dark, dank OG. As the deep, earthy elements of wood slowly diminish, you experience the true complexity of this profile’s body and base. Uplifting notes of citrus, floral greens, and sweet herbs round everything out for a beautifully harmonious aromatic experience.

This is, of course, thanks to a variety of compounds, including the dominant terpene isolates beta-Myrcene, beta-Caryophyllene, and d-Limonene.

Responsible for some of Skywalker OG’s sweet herbaceousness, beta-Myrcene can be sourced from LOTS of botanical sources, from mangoes and lemongrass to hops and basil. On its own, Myrcene smells earthy and woody with distinct notes of cardamom, fruit, and musk.

The beta-Caryophyllene terpene isolate is responsible for the spicy, peppery taste of black pepper and the woodsy smell of clove oil, copaifera oil, basil, hops, oregano, lavender, rosemary, and true cinnamon.

While the citrus notes in this profile are delicate, d-Limonene still plays an important role in its overall aroma. This terpene is often found in fruits like lemons, limes, grapefruits, oranges, etc. Unsurprisingly, the d-Limonene aroma is very citrusy, sweet, and sour.

Skywalker OG | Terplytics

Our proprietary Terplytics system is the next generation of cannabis analytics. It allows us to deliver the most advanced botanical testing for exploratory research, sensory quantification, strain validation, product development, and consumer insights. It’s also how we developed the Loud Factor and the Gas Factor.

The Loud Factor quantifies the pungency or “loudness” of a strain. Unlike Total Aromatics by Weight, the Loud Factor assigns scores to individual compounds based on their pungency. This is important for aromatic compounds that are incredibly pungent, even at parts per billion.

 GAS FACTOR — 85%

LOUD FACTOR — 83%

You probably already guessed that the Gas Factor measures the intensity of a profile’s gassy aroma. Gassy aromas often contain high amounts of beta-Myrcene, d-Limonene, and beta-Caryophyllene, as well as flavorants typically found in gassy exotics. Considering that OG Kush is a quintessential gassy cultivar, it’s not surprising that Skywalker OG has a Gas Factor of 85%.

It’s also worth noting that these numbers don’t have anything to do with quality. A cultivar that has a 100% Haze Factor, for example, isn’t objectively better than a cultivar with a 0% Haze Factor. It just means that one is very hazy, and one isn’t hazy at all.

Skywalker OG Terpene Profile Effects

Yes, cannabinoids like THC are responsible for psychoactivity (aka, they’re what get you high). However, in addition to creating aroma and flavor, aromatic compounds are what dictate specific effects. That’s why two cultivars with the exact same cannabinoid levels may promote different experiences.

One may make you want to hike through the forests of Endor, while the other will have you longing for a tranquil nap overlooking the beautiful cliffs and waterfalls of Naboo's capital. Basically, if you enjoy the way Skywalker OG makes you feel, then you can thank the unique combination of cannabinoids and various aromatic compounds.

If you use terms like Indica and Sativa, this cultivar would be considered an indica-leaning hybrid (although these terms don’t actually have anything to do with a cultivar’s effects). Skywalker OG is known for its potent, fast-acting effects. As your body becomes heavier and heavier, a gentle sense of peaceful euphoria will wash over you.

Honestly, there’s no fighting the couchlock from this cultivar, so we recommend it for after-work enjoyment alongside your favorite snacks (the munchies are strong with this one).
